RECENT JNV NEWS

Young Campaigner of the Year: Maya Anne Evans, JNV worker, has won the The Peter Duffy Award, given by the human rights group Liberty (the Young Campaigner of the Year Award).

IRAN - A CRUCIAL DOCUMENT

All year, JNV has been drawing attention to the promising negotiating offer Iran made to the US in 2003, which was rejected out of hand by the White House. The text of the offer was leaked to the Washington Post, and is available on the JNV website here.

IRAQ: 1.2 MILLION WAR DEATHS, POLL ESTIMATES

The mainstream British media has censored itself once again, refusing to discuss or even note the result of a poll conducted Iraq by a mainstream British polling agency, ORB, which indicates that as many as 1.2m Iraqis may have died violent deaths as a result of the invasion and the conditions it has created. The one mainstream newspaper story (in the Observer) is headlined: "Greenspan admits Iraq was about oil, as deaths put at 1.2m", which tends to obscure the most shocking aspect of the paragraphs that follow.

On 21 August, Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency reached a breakthrough agreement designed to clear up questions about Iran's nuclear programme - by December 2007. The US and the EU are demonstrating hostility, and trying to undermine this agreement.

This JNV exhibition of prints by Emily Johns has been travelling the country over the last eighteen months. The exhibition is about Britain's relationship with Iran over the last century. It is a beautiful and useful resource for gaining an understanding of a country that has been and will continue to be a target of Britain's foreign policy. PDF of catalogue of the exhibition with essay by Milan Rai on Iran's nuclear programme above. Contact JNV (0845 458 9571) to use this exhibition either in a framed form or as posters.

CHILDREN AGAINST WAR DVD

Thanks to JNV fundraising, Children Against War managed to send Sonia Azad, a 12-year-old British Muslim girl, to Jordan to make a film about Iraqi children refugees. We're helping to edit the film, and will be supporting the launch event in November, after which the DVD will be available from this website. Sonia also took over £1000 in donations to give to Iraqi refugee families now living in Jordan. Some of this was distributed via Direct Aid Initiative. Read the original call for support.

TERRORISM, REALISM AND DENIAL

The latest JNV briefing (3 July) addresses the link between al-Qaeda terrorism and Britain's wars abroad.
