FAIR TRIALS NOT FOREIGN TORTURE
Trials Not Torture
Deporting
Psychiatric Patients To Torture
In the wake of the London bombings,
Tony Blair has ordered the arrest and deportation of ten Muslim
men—including a double amputee taken from a psychiatric
ward (Times, 12 August, p. 6). They face deportation to torture
states.
Put Them
On Trial—Or Release Them
If there is evidence that these men have been involved in terrorism,
we should put them on trial. If guilty of crimes on British
soil, they should be punished by British law.
Instead the government is refusing to
charge them with any crime at all, admitting that the “evidence”
against them would not stand up in court.
8 Out Of
9 Found Not Guilty
In the recent “ricin” case, of the nine men charged
with conspiracy, four men were found not guilty of all charges,
and the prosecution dropped charges against another four.
8 out of 9 men suspected by the government
turned out to be innocent of terrorism when the “evidence”
was tested.
Deported
To Torture
Instead of putting the 10 suspects on trial here, Mr Blair wants
to put them at risk of torture and possible death in states
like Algeria and Jordan, even though they have not been found
guilty of any crime.
Stop The
Deportations
Please write to Charles Clarke, Home Secretary, Home Office,
2 Marsham Street, London SW1P 4DF asking for trials
not torture.
